Tarot Readings

There are some interesting beliefs about the Tarot and certainly a lot of stigma around its use.   Some people relate the tarot most strongly to gypsy fortune tellers, black magic, or evil.  This kind of fear based thinking probably stems from Medieval times or even the Inquisition and is totally unwarranted where this fun and lively deck of cards is concerned.  It would be better to focus attention on the person handling and reading the cards than the cards themselves, which have no power beyond that which the reader imbues in them. 

I began to use the Tarot in my readings in 1980 in San Francisco where I was introduced to the Thoth Deck by a black man on the steps of the San Francisco Art Institute.  Up until that time I had sometimes used an ordinary deck of cards to read people.  Neither then, nor now, do I have meanings for these cards that are static or correspond to what they are supposed to mean.  Each reading is new and fresh in its content and meaning.

Over the years, and thousands of readings, I have made the deck my own.  Each time I use the deck, the particular situations or energies of the person being read casts a new light or new meaning on the cards.  The deck to me is a living document that changes with different people and circumstances

Nevertheless, the Tarot has an uncanny way of delivering the guidelines for a message that will be timely and accurate.

The Tarot, like any oracle, is an out-picturing of what is inside, behind the scenes, not yet revealed.  In some cases the images become triggers for the client to delve into surprisingly deep and hidden areas.

In all maters of divination - it is the person doing the reading - not the means by which they accomplish the reading , that should be your concern.   The cards have no special power of their own other than being a tool - actually, a visual aid for reader and questioner.
